Biography

Luzera Smith—better known by the callsign “Smitty”—was born on Cubeo III to a family of imperial prestige and academic weight. Her mother, Maggy Bernard, served as a test pilot for classified aerospace prototypes under the Imperial Navy's black projects division. Her father, Antonio Smith, taught early human history at the Emerald Observatory, with a focus on humanity’s ideological evolution from Earth-bound empires to the interstellar dynasties of today.

From a young age, Luzera was drawn to the cockpit—but her true talents lay in observation, pattern recognition, and cool-headed judgment under pressure. These qualities led to her early admittance into the Royal Officers Academy at only 14. Upon graduation, however, she declined a standard naval commission. Instead, she was quietly recruited into the Imperial Internal Security Directorate—specifically its Cubeo III operations division.

Her first major assignment placed her deep undercover inside Azimuth Biochemicals, working under the identity of an Aegis-defector sympathetic to Salvation. For nearly a year, she relayed intelligence on Guardian-weapon experiments and personnel movement until, just weeks before the Proteus Wave incident in HIP 22460, she was compromised. Fleeing through backchannel exfiltration routes, she barely escaped the destruction that followed.

During the Second Thargoid War, Luzera returned to Cubeo III and worked directly under I.I.S. Command. Her specialty shifted to counter-xeno research monitoring, particularly surveillance of ex-Aegis and Azimuth remnants within Imperial space. During this time, her mother vanished under mysterious circumstances following the test flight of a high-risk prototype tied to an undisclosed Imperial research program. No remains, telemetry, or wreckage were recovered.

After the war, as the Empire entered its strategic expansion phase, Luzera’s career took a bureaucratic but impactful turn. Following a reshuffling of colonial appointments, she was installed—by accident or design—as the Overseer of Synuefe OU-E c28-16, a minor imperial outpost.
