CHILDHOOD

Marina was born on Ortiz Moreno Hub in Lu Wu Guan on the 15th of May, 3276 to Mr. Wei Yao and Ms. Leonor Carvalho. Her father works as a subsidiary of SDT Mercantile. He works mainly with spare parts, transferring scrap off stations and bringing replacements where needed.

Marina was the 3rd of 5 children. She has two older brothers and two younger sisters. Her eldest brother died during an explosive decompression event in a machine salvage operation when she was 12. The older of her two younger sisters died when Marina was 24 when the ancient type-6 she was flying lost power and plummeted to the surface of Lu Wu Guan 1.

Marina started working for her father’s company when she was 6. Wei Yao was a very hard working (if not successful) businessman, and made sure all his children contributed to the family business as much as they could. Marina often felt like her father cared more for his company than his family. This opinion was reinforced when the death of her brother, and later her sister, had seemingly no effect on the man.

By the time Marina was in her teens she wanted to leave Lu Wu Guan. She hated it there. She hated working for her father. But she had little choice in the matter. She was paid next to nothing in credits, and her father oversaw his children’s activity like a foreman. What money she did have she spent getting access to news from the Empire about Aisling Dvual, the young princess of the Empire who was the same age as Marina. She loved the reports of the princess’s activities, and this love sparked in her a passion for reporting.

Marina had virtually no outlet for her passions. At night she would pretend to give news reports for her younger sisters in the barracks they shared.

As Marina’s 30th birthday approached she realized her father’s overbearingness was sucking the life out of her and making her miserable. She started saving up the money she would need to get out. Unfortunately, Pilot's Federation licenses are extremely expensive. After months of saving, she was about to give up hope when an anonymous backer paid the fees for her to get her license. She only said goodbye to her younger sister in person. She left a holo-vid goodbye for her mother. She left nothing for her father, and could not bring herself to say goodbye to her older brother.

INDEPENDENT PILOT

Marina spent the better part of a year from 3306 to early 3307 doing cargo runs. She worked her way up from a sidewinder to a type-9 by finding and exploiting profitable loop-trade routes. When the Nine Martyrs attacks happened on March 11th 3307 Marina used a substantial portion of her trading profits to buy a Python and outfit it for mass-evacuations. She spent the better part of a week evacuating survivors from the burning stations until things were under control, and then spent a few more days hauling medicine in her type-9 to assist in the triage.

Marina tried to work on her reporting hobby on and off during this time, but it was never a profitable or very successful enterprise.

CUBEO AND THE PRISMATIC IMPERIUM

Exhausted from her relief effort work, Marina took a few days to re-assess her life. She’d spent almost a year doing hauling work and had made a substantial profit. Her father would be proud. That made her sick. She’d left home, and kept right on doing what her father had taught her. She decided she wanted a change. She’d head to Cubeo, the seat of Aisling Duval’s power, and pursue the career she’d always wanted in journalism.

She quickly soared to massive unexpected success when she accidentally brushed shoulders with some of the most powerful movers-and-shakers in the Prismatic Imperium, Cubeo’s controlling faction. Within a few weeks Marina had successful launched her independent journalism career and could even afford to rent a spacious office on the top floor of Raven Tower.

However, after being shot in a bar brawl on 3/25/3307, and her independent reporting attracting the wrath of TPM, her future on Cubeo is uncertain.

While driving to the guest house, Ana sends a message to Allan who plays the message out loud. Ana is breaking up with him. Allan is thrown into shock and Marina is mortified.
