This newfound prosperity allowed them to reside comfortably along the Sapphire Sea.
However, the family's fortunes took a downturn with Leonard Penrose's ascendancy after the passing of his father, Alastair R. Penrose. Under Leonard's leadership, the family's standing and reputation plummeted due to financial mismanagement at PCM, inability to settle debts, and a spiral into vices like drugs, gambling, and reckless relationships. Despite emancipating the family's slaves and those under PCM, it seemed more like a financial maneuver than a moral awakening.
Celebrated historian, Sir Geoffrey Guffaw, remarks on the Penrose saga: 'Ah yes, the Penrose family, where misfortune seems to have taken up permanent residence. If their story were a comedy, the tragic humor would be unmistakable.'
In 3277, Lewis, accompanied by his sons, brother, and mother, executed a coup that ejected Leonard from his roles within PCM and effectively severed him from the Penrose family. Leonard fled Rangtei, vanishing from sight. Lewis assumed the position of family patriarch, attempting to mend the social and financial damage caused by Leonard's actions. Meanwhile, Wilhelm took over as PCM's CEO, attempting to salvage the business and stabilize its operations.
'In the annals of history, it appears the Penrose family's luck remains rather unremarkable, even under the reign of Lewis Penrose. One wonders if they've managed to turn the pages of their fate, or if they're stuck in a never-ending chapter of misadventures.'"
